WINTER IS ALMOST OVER, LET’S GO FLY… February 2nd the little rodent (if I can catch him I’m gonna make a rug…) predicted 6 more weeks of Winter weather. Although the days are still cold and damp, here in the West ‘ole Man Winter is packing up for his Summer move to Florida! We can now gear up for another mid-year for Kiwanis, and work to increase our numbers. Don’t get me wrong—the last few months members in the District have been busy. We now have at least 2 additional Chartered Key Clubs’, and 1 K-Kids Club, plus a few new adult Kiwanians have joined with us to serve our communities. I do hope everyone has considered the challenge, called the MEMBERSHIP ADVANCEMENT PROJECT I threw down beginning in January to achieve the “Top Sponsor” title and receive a ride in a light airplane. Please review the information/parameters found in the December/January and February/March issues of the U&I Kiwanian. I love Kiwanis, but my passion also is introducing my friends to the wonderful world of flight! Scheduled this year is our annual training session and District Convention, to introduce Kiwanis to new members, those veteran members wishing to aspire to higher offices in the District, and for folks that enjoy interacting with Kiwanis friends. April 8, 2017 we will hold the Mid-Winter Conference, at the Comfort Suites, I-15 Exit 343, near Ogden, Utah. There is no cost to attend, unless you come in the evening before, rooms are available at the Kiwanis rate. Our District Convention will be held in Richfield, Utah, August 17-19, 2017. Thursday evening a Bar-B-Q picnic will be held, a banquet on Friday evening, meetings and training, issues and resolutions, and a memorial service for members that have passed on. This year the convention will close on Saturday afternoon to allow folks to depart early for home or their favorite vacation spot in the area. Please make every effort to attend and support the Richfield Convention. The Kiwanis International Convention will be conducted in Paris, France July 13-17, 2017. It is not too late to register for the event, so please consider joining Sandy and me, and a few others from the District for this memorable extravaganza! Thank you for being a Kiwanian: your activity today helps a child make a life tomorrow. Quoting International President Jane again,”… it’s all about the kids!” Remember our District goal: We are charged to PROTECT, NURTURE, AND MENTOR the children of the World! Sincerely and in Kiwanis service, Captain Jim Vaughan, Governor |

What if you could save a baby's life?
With The Eliminate Project, you can. Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) kills one baby every nine minutes. But three doses of a 60-cent vaccine can protect mothers and babies. Kiwanis and UNICEF have joined forces to bring this vaccine to 38 countries, eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. What can you do right now? Learn about MNT and advocate for the cause. Participate in our fundraisers. Over the next few years, the work we do will change the world. Find out more at www.TheEliminateProject.org.
